I studied Computer Science at UC Berkeley when 1 Mb of memory cost far more than a house. Computers have changed a bit since then. I have worked with at least 10 relational database products through the years, including 18 years working with Oracle. Many interesting languages, design approaches, hardware and other computer technologies have come and gone during my career. It is interesting to note that relational databases are still around and have a promising future. Despite their many new features and technological advancements, relational databases have been the most stable software components in the systems I have worked on over the years. Most of my career has been spent in the semiconductor and aerospace industries. I specialize in system performance and database systems, primarily supporting complex engineering systems. These days most of my work is in new development of large, multi-tier systems. I reside in Southern California and work for Thales-Raytheon Systems, a joint venture between Thales (France) and Raytheon (USA).
